played are wrapped around a cold war showdown between the United
States and the Soviet Union. Humor drives the plot and it is this "LOL"
factor that separates Sandlot Summit from other kids' sports stories.
Girls as well as boys will enjoy the story because of the ongoing tension
and rivalry between the boys of Team USA and their classmates, the Bizzy
Bees softball team. Their captain even breaks ranks to play with the
boys in the big game.
Sandlot Summit is recommended best for grades 5 to 8 but is easy and
enjoyable for other ages. Older readers will appreciate that the book is

Author biography
Rick Fishman loves humor—seriously. The Clevelander also
loves baseball and spent over a decade coaching youth teams
in
her wedding day but, unfortunately, it came with four bases
and a pitcher’s mound. Despite this,
eccentric humor since 1984, the same year that Sandlot Summit
was originally published on a typewriter. The new edition is a
complete rewrite and includes the high energy illustrations of
artist Doug Hoch.
The Fishmans have two adult children, Katie and Kyle. Scarlet
and gray are the colors in this family as Rick and Katie are both
Ohio State Buckeyes, graduating in 1974 and 2007 respectively.
In 1992, Rick earned a spot in the Guinness Book of Records
by painting the world’s largest map on the playground of his
kids’ elementary school. An accountant by trade, he recently
took some time off for a brief but rewarding adventure as a
high school math teacher. There’s a Russian connection here
too. Rick’s grandparents bid the czar farewell in 1913 and
